18 Year Old Woman Raped in SF State Dorm Room

Towers at Centennial Square An 18-year-old woman was raped in a San Francisco State University dorm room, and campus police are searching for a college-age suspect. The sexual assault happened sometime between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday at the university’s Towers at Centennial Square, police said. The woman was not an SF State student.

The attacker tricked the victim into thinking he was leading her to a dorm party after she became separated from her friends. She followed him into an elevator, but at the same time her friends emerged from an elevator across the room and asked her where whe was going. As she tried to leave the attacker grabbed her and held her until the doors had closed, preventing her escape. He then led her to a dorm room where he raped her. After the sexual assault was finished, the young woman left the room and reunited with her friends.

“It is not known whether the alleged assailant was a resident or a visitor,” SFSU spokeswoman Ellen Griffin said Thursday.

The suspect was described as a mixed-race man between ages 18 and 22. He had short hair, stood 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed about 180 pounds, according to police.

Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to contact Inspector Abe Leal at the San Francisco State University Police Department at (415) 338-7200 or (415) 338-2222.

Motorcycle Gang Shootout in Nevada Casino Leaves One Dead

jeffrey b pettigrewThe president of the San Jose chapter of the Hells Angels motorcycle club, Jeffrey “Jethro” Pettigrew, 51, was killed Friday night during a shootout inside a Nevada casino with a rival outlaw motorcycle club, according to officials.

Local police and other gang experts predicted that Friday’s homicide, which sources said has been attributed to members of the Vagos Motorcycle Club, could presage further bloodshed.

“In the outlaw motorcycle gang culture, Jeff Pettigrew was a local icon in San Jose, a very well-respected member within the ranks of the Hells Angels,” said San Jose police Sgt. Larry Day, who has investigated biker clubs. “This incident could definitely result in retaliation against the Vagos, and a full-blown war that may result in deadly violence in San Jose and throughout California.”

Friday night’s shootout happened during the annual five-day “Street Vibrations” biker festival in which thousands of bikers from across the country ride into Reno and nearby cities. Sparks police said they responded to a fight at 11:26 PM, involving a large group of men armed with guns inside the casino. Police said that as their units were on their way to the fight, shots were fired.

Inside the casino, officers found three male gunshot victims. Sparks police identified Pettigrew as the dead man. Vagos Motorcycle Club members Leonard Ramirez, 45, and Diego Garcia, 28, were in stable condition at a hospital after suffering gunshot wounds. Both were identified only as California residents.

villagranaAnother Hells Angels member Cesar Villagrana, 36, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen firearm. Police said he was videotaped shooting into the crowd, but could not verify if any of his shots hit the victims. No other suspects have been arrested.

As a result of that shooting and a separate shooting Saturday morning, the Sparks’ part of the Street Vibrations event was canceled Saturday afternoon. Police would not say if the shootings were related.

Law enforcement experts said members of the Hells Angels and Vagos clubs are blood enemies.

“There’s going to be hostilities,” predicted Jorge Gil-Blanco, a former San Jose police officer who is familiar with outlaw motorcycle clubs. “When you have a situation where one member gets killed by another gang, then something is going to happen,” he said. “It might be right away or it might be down the road.”

Suspected Drunk Driver Kills Senior Citizen in Fremont Traffic Accident

Fremont, California

The driver of a black pickup truck is suspected of driving under the influence (DUI) when he hit a green truck, sending it through a traffic light and flipping it over several times. The truck ended up on its roof and the 80 year old driver, a Fremont resident, was pronounced dead on the scene by Fremont Fire.

Both vehicles were traveling northbound on Mission Blvd. in the Niles district at the time of the accident. The driver of the black truck, a 53 year old Fremont man, crashed into a sound wall in front of a residence and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A white pickup was also involved in the crash, but police reported that although the driver was in pain, he did not require medical attention.

Reports of a reckless driver traveling from Mowry Blvd to northbound on Mission came in just minutes before the accident.

Body of Missing Nursing Student Identified

Michele Le

Michele Le

Pleasanton, California

Cell phone records lead volunteers to search and area of Niles Canyon in an unincorporated area between Pleasanton and Sunol. The search lead to the discovery on Saturday of the body of Michele Le, 26, a nursing student who had been missing since taking a break from work at Kaiser Permanente in Hayward on May 27.

A former high school friend of Le, Giselle Esteban, 27, was arrested on September 7, under suspicion of murder. Here is the known evidence that points to her:

  1. Surveillance footage puts her in the parking garage at the time of Le’s disappearance
  2. Cell phone tower records show both Le and Esteban were traveling together shortly after Le’s disappearance in the area where here body was eventually found.
  3. Le’s DNA was found on a shoe Esteban’s found during a search of her house.
Giselle Estaban

Esteban admitted to a local TV station that she hated Le because she was friends with the father of Esteban’s young daughter. Esteban’s ex-boyfriend had custody of the daughter and was granted a restraining order against Esteban three days before Le’s disappearance. The obvious implication is that this was a child custody drama gone terribly awry.

Tracy Couple’s Motorcycle Hit By Pick-up Truck on Labor Day

According to the Walnut Creek Personal Injury Blog, an Antioch woman failed to yield the right-of-way to a motorcycle ridden by a Tracy couple, hitting them and causing them injuries that hospitalized them for several days. The woman was not arrested or cited by police.

Police officers in such a traffic accident do not always cite or ticket the person apparently at fault. They will, however, write up the report that is used by the insurance company and possibly the court to assign fault.  In the end, the lack of ticketing of the driver of the pickup should have no bearing on insurance payments or a civil case involved in this accident.

Please note that this is a layman’s opinion and in no way constitutes legal advice. Seek the advice of an attorney if you have been involved in an accident. Most offer free legal consultations.

Hayward Hit-and-run Suspect Pleads Not-Guilty to DUI

Andrew Vargas, 21, or Hayward was returned to custody after pleading not-guilty to the hit & run accident that left a 9 year old boy with multiple serious injuries. Vargas’ bail was also increased by $400,000, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. His bail is now $465,000.

Vargas is scheduled to appear Tuesday in San Francisco Superior Court, to face two counts of felony drunken driving with injury, one felony count of hit-and-run with injury, and an accusation that he caused great bodily injury.

Vargas also allegedly injured the foot of the boy’s 58 year old aunt. The boy himself, Ryan White, is in serious condition, healing from fractures to his pelvis, left leg and ankle, a lacerated liver and a traumatic brain injury. The accident occurred after a Giants-Phillies game at AT&T park.

Unfortunately, a lot of baseball fans drink at the game, and don’t have the sense to take public transportation, or use a designated driver. This can make going to sporting events hazardous to the general public.

“Public drunks,” who don’t have sense enough not to operate a motor vehicle in a busy metropolitan area, also tend to be loud, obnoxious, vulgar and at times, violent. Is an industry that pays grown men exorbitant sums of money, and places them on a pedestal as “heros” for playing children’s games ultimately to blame for the childish, immature and irresponsible behavior of the fans? Maybe some of the unexamined “norms” of our culture should be brought to light if we are really to do something about problems and behavior, such as that which severely injured this 9 year old boy.

Craigslist Murders

A Florida based media consulting company prepared a report for a competitor of San Francisco based Craigslist, the popular online classified website. The report listed crimes perpetrated during transactions facilitated by Craiglist. Evidently the report was intended to paint Craigslist as a dangerous online venue, and frighten users into trying out the competitor’s website. Of course bringing a significant amount of money to a meeting with people you have never met is a stupid idea, especially in a secluded or unfamiliar area. Craigslist can’t be blamed for this fact of life. The list of crimes does tell an interesting tale, and should be a warning to anyone thinking of treading this dangerous path.

And without further ado – the Craigslist killings:

San Francisco Police Crackdown on Crime In Golden Gate Park

San Francisco Police Department is stepping up enforcement in Golden Gate Park following pit bull attacks and the stabbing death of a 25 year old earlier this month. Transients camping out overnight in the park involved in criminal activities will be the target of the increased police present in Golden Gate Park.

Adam Noyes, and 25-year-old man was stabbed to death by 65-year-old Richard Ray on the 4th of July. Ray admits to killing Noyes, but claims self-defenes. The 65 year was the individual who alerted police to the killing, but  is being charged with murder, according to a police spokeman.

4 days earlier people were attacked by pit bulls that came from a homeless camp in the park. Police say that the two incidents have created fear in the general public, but the park is safe, and the stepped up patrols should make people feel good about returning to Golden Gate Park.
